{"id":47,"date":"2013-06-19T01:45:00","date_gmt":"2013-06-19T01:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beltguy.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/19\/hello-from-estes-park-co\/"},"modified":"2013-06-19T01:45:00","modified_gmt":"2013-06-19T01:45:00","slug":"hello-from-estes-park-co","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beltguy.com\/Travelogue\/?p=47","title":{"rendered":"Hello from Estes Park, CO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello from Estes Park, CO<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday evening&nbsp;&nbsp; June 18, 2013&nbsp;&nbsp; (First travelogue of this trip).<\/p>\n<p>We have been staying at the Spruce Lake RV Park <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.google.com\/?t=h&amp;q=40.362683,-105.541409(Shepherd)\">(map)<\/a>.&nbsp; We left Evergreen Friday morning and arrived here about 1:30.&nbsp; It was a bit over 100 miles.<\/p>\n<p>This is our family vacation.&nbsp; Daughters Lisa and Kelly and their families are here.&nbsp; Judy and her family could not make the trip, as Austin had to have surgery.&nbsp; It is getting very difficult to get the kids and grandkids together with all of their complicated schedules and activities.<\/p>\n<p>Because of those schedules, we were only able to plan four nights.&nbsp; This vacation has been a bit different from other times, in that we mostly relaxed.&nbsp; We did do a quick tour of the amazing Stanley Hotel <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stanleyhotel.com\/?gclid=CJ7MsK_g7bcCFVJp7AodWHMAgg\">(website)<\/a>.&nbsp; I lifted this description from their website:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\nThe Stanley Hotel, known for its architecture, magnificent setting, and famous visitors, may possibly be best known today for its inspirational role in the Stephen King&#8217;s novel, &#8220;The Shining.&#8221; This Colorado hotel has been featured as one of America&#8217;s most haunted hotels. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here is a view of the hotel:<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-iJgCYjarnRo\/UcEMKwuzwXI\/AAAAAAAAAig\/XBcSy0ivDHI\/s1600\/Stanley+Hotel.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"212\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-iJgCYjarnRo\/UcEMKwuzwXI\/AAAAAAAAAig\/XBcSy0ivDHI\/s320\/Stanley+Hotel.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>\nThe view from the front verandah of the hotel is equally amazing:<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-DbOFaWuNZ1M\/UcEMdNTXuMI\/AAAAAAAAAis\/VOqeQZotgIw\/s1600\/View+from+Stanley+Verandah.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"251\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-DbOFaWuNZ1M\/UcEMdNTXuMI\/AAAAAAAAAis\/VOqeQZotgIw\/s320\/View+from+Stanley+Verandah.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>As has often been the case, I am finishing this post at home.&nbsp; For the route up and back, we traveled I-25 up to US 34.&nbsp; US 34 takes you through the Big Thompson canyon.&nbsp; This canyon was the site of the horrendous flood in 1976 that killed 144 people <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.denverpost.com\/library\/2012\/07\/31\/big-thompson-flood-1976\/2795\/\">(info)<\/a>.&nbsp; Today it is a beautiful canyon.&nbsp; Driving the bus up the canyon was a bit of a hand full.&nbsp; Between controlling the shifts in our ten speed transmission and hitting the mister to keep the charge air cooler withing reasonable range, there was little time to site see.&nbsp; Conversely, driving down the canyon was very enjoyable.&nbsp; The Jake brakes made use of the service brakes minimal.&nbsp; I was able to enjoy the beauty of the canyon.<\/p>\n<p>That is all for trip<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello from Estes Park, CO Tuesday evening&nbsp;&nbsp; June 18, 2013&nbsp;&nbsp; (First travelogue of this trip).
