{"id":22,"date":"2013-11-19T16:30:00","date_gmt":"2013-11-19T16:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beltguy.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/19\/hello-from-gunnison-co\/"},"modified":"2013-11-19T16:30:00","modified_gmt":"2013-11-19T16:30:00","slug":"hello-from-gunnison-co","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beltguy.com\/Travelogue\/?p=22","title":{"rendered":"Hello from Gunnison, CO"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nHello from Gunnison, CO<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nTuesday morning ,&nbsp;<br \/>\nNovember 19, 2013&nbsp;&nbsp; (ninth<br \/>\ntravelogue of this trip).<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nSunday we drove about 400 miles to Green River, UT and<br \/>\nstayed at the Holiday Inn Express (on points {grin}).&nbsp; Monday we drove to Gunnison (a bit over 200<br \/>\nmiles) and got here about noon.&nbsp; We are<br \/>\nstaying at the Roadway Inn <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.google.com\/?t=h&amp;q=38.528554,-106.958484%28Shepherd%29\">(map)<\/a>.&nbsp; <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nLast night we went to dinner with Thomas (grandson) and his<br \/>\ngirlfriend Klara.&nbsp; We also did a bit of<br \/>\ncatching up in the rather tiny motel room.&nbsp;<br \/>\nIt is great to hear about their lives and frustrating to hear about the<br \/>\nchallenges of being a college student on a tight budget.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nWe planned this trip for several reasons.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nFirst, we wanted to just plain get away.&nbsp; I was tired of flying to Seattle so often and<br \/>\nfighting the airport logistics.&nbsp; That<br \/>\nalso meant a lot of time away from Pat.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n&nbsp;Second, we wanted to<br \/>\ntake a tourist-type trip through the north west part of the US.&nbsp; We have seen some magnificent country,<br \/>\nvisited some great friends and drove a lot of miles (close to 4000!).&nbsp; I think we did pretty good on that goal.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nLastly, I wanted to pick up a sleeper I bought for my \u201959<br \/>\nIHC BC-150 truck <a href=\"http:\/\/beltguy.com\/bc150\/bc150.htm\">(link to background)<\/a>.&nbsp; If you visit the linked site, you will find<br \/>\nout that this truck is very special to me.&nbsp;<br \/>\nI have been collecting parts for a complete rebuild for several<br \/>\nyears.&nbsp; One of my crazy goals was to extend<br \/>\nthe frame and put a sleeper on the truck.&nbsp;<br \/>\nIt was never built that way from the factory, but I think it will look<br \/>\nneat and give me some storage room.&nbsp; I<br \/>\nhad looked all over the US for a period-correct sleeper and finally found one<br \/>\nthat was about 5 miles from the hotel in Kent, WA.&nbsp; I went to see it a couple of months ago and bought<br \/>\nit.&nbsp; Then I had to figure out how to get<br \/>\nit home.&nbsp; The photo below shows my methodology<br \/>\n{grin}.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-9KuZaa3B6Nw\/UouR7UOsHcI\/AAAAAAAAAns\/GssI0SIWQso\/s1600\/Truck+with+sleeper+in+bed+2+(Medium).JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-9KuZaa3B6Nw\/UouR7UOsHcI\/AAAAAAAAAns\/GssI0SIWQso\/s320\/Truck+with+sleeper+in+bed+2+(Medium).JPG\" height=\"253\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nThat is all for now. <\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello from Gunnison, CO Tuesday morning ,&nbsp; November 19, 2013&nbsp;&nbsp; (ninth travelogue of this trip).
