{"id":1428,"date":"2021-10-17T16:13:27","date_gmt":"2021-10-17T22:13:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beltguy.com\/blog\/?p=1428"},"modified":"2021-10-17T16:13:27","modified_gmt":"2021-10-17T22:13:27","slug":"hello-from-willis-va","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beltguy.com\/Travelogue\/?p=1428","title":{"rendered":"Hello from Willis, VA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello from Willis, VA<\/p>\n<p>Sunday evening\u2013 October 17, 2021\u00a0\u00a0 (third post of this travelogue)<\/p>\n<p>Well, we have had a change of plans.\u00a0 Our original plan was to drive the full length of the Blue Ridge Parkway \u2013 stopping at campground along the way.\u00a0 However, we drove a length of the parkway from Cherokee to Ashville without the trailer and it\u00a0 was like driving our twisty North Turkey Creek road most of the way (not quite that bad, but close).\u00a0 We quickly decided that driving with the trailer would not be fun.<\/p>\n<p>So,\u00a0 we decided to pick two locations adjacent to the parkway and camp in those locations for three nights each and tour as much of the parkway as possible from each campground.<\/p>\n<p>Our first stop was at the \u201cDaddy Rabbit\u201d campground close to Willis, VA\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/36%C2%B049'16.7%22N+80%C2%B025'44.4%22W\/@36.8213043,-80.4377547,2204m\/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d36.8213!4d-80.429\">(Google Map)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>{google_map}36.8213, -80.4290{\/google_map}<\/p>\n<p>Pat has labeled this the \u201cpretty campground from hell\u201d, but it really is very scenic.\u00a0\u00a0 Her objection was how difficult it was to back the trailer into the spot in the very tight space between a bunch of trees.\u00a0 In addition, it is very wooded and we are not able to get a TV signal (not the end of the world, but we wanted to watch the races this weekend).\u00a0 Also, the power was only 20 amp, but that is plenty since we do not need to run the AC \u2013 indeed, it was rather chilly this morning and the inside of the camper was 50 degrees when we got up.<\/p>\n<p>At this campground, neither our AT&amp;T or Verizon MiFi work for internet.\u00a0 The campground has WiFi, but it is pretty slow.\u00a0 Yesterday we traveled to Roanoke via the parkway and took my laptop so that we could make reservations for the next two stops.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of campgrounds, it is very difficult to find a spot in most campgrounds.\u00a0 We have to do a Google search for campgrounds in the selected location and then start calling until we find one with a space.\u00a0 It is not for a lack of campgrounds.\u00a0 There seem to be several for every selected location, but they are mostly booked up.<\/p>\n<p>So far, the weather has been fantastic (except for the one windy day).\u00a0 Daytime temperatures are mostly in the 80s and evening temperatures are in the 60s (give or take 10 degrees).\u00a0 We have had a few rain showers, but nothing that interfered with our travels.<\/p>\n<p>At first we were disappointed that we had not encountered fall colors.\u00a0 We are now a bit further north and the colors are better, but we have not seen much of the red colors.\u00a0 We hope to get into even better colors in the next few days.<\/p>\n<p>I have included a photo of our \u201cDaddy Rabbit\u201d camp spot and of the colors we saw yesterday.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1429\" src=\"http:\/\/beltguy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Daddy-Rabbit-Campground-scaled-e1634508458923-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1430\" src=\"http:\/\/beltguy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/VA-Color-scaled-e1634508548256-1024x526.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"329\" \/><\/p>\n<p>More to come.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello from Willis, VA Sunday evening\u2013 October 17, 2021\u00a0\u00a0 (third post of this travelogue) Well, we have had a change of plans.\u00a0 Our original plan was to drive the full length of the Blue Ridge Parkway \u2013 stopping at campground &hellip;
