{"id":1423,"date":"2021-10-13T12:20:48","date_gmt":"2021-10-13T18:20:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beltguy.com\/blog\/?p=1423"},"modified":"2021-10-13T12:20:48","modified_gmt":"2021-10-13T18:20:48","slug":"hello-from-cherokee-nc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beltguy.com\/Travelogue\/?p=1423","title":{"rendered":"Hello from Cherokee, NC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wednesday afternoon \u2013 October 13, 2021\u00a0\u00a0 (second post of this travelogue)<\/p>\n<p>As I mentioned in the first post of this travelogue, we are on a rather extensive journey.\u00a0 I have a teaching assignment at Boeing in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania.\u00a0 We are driving there in our truck and camp trailer.\u00a0 We are taking a route that we hope will be very scenic.\u00a0 Our current location is a the Happy Holiday Campground <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/35%C2%B028'16.9%22N+83%C2%B014'43.7%22W\/@35.4746427,-83.2612696,3226m\/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d35.47136!4d-83.24546\">(Google Map)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>{google_map}35.47136, -83.24546{\/google_map}<\/p>\n<p>Since leaving Corning, we have travelled about 1000 miles.\u00a0 We stopped in campgrounds in Boonville, MO; Benton, Il; Lebanon, TN and now here.\u00a0 The campgrounds have been anywhere from primitive (Boonville) to gorgeous (here).\u00a0 We have paid a bit over $30 in two locations and over $50 per night in Benton and here.<\/p>\n<p>We have planned the trip so that our travel days are less than 300 miles.\u00a0 The first two days were uneventful, but the trip from Benton to Lebanon was extremely windy.\u00a0\u00a0 The\u00a0 truck and trailer were a bit\u00a0 \u201ctwitchy\u201d so I stopped and bought\/installed a sway bar (had intended to do that before we left).<\/p>\n<p>Our trip yesterday had the earmarks of the trip from hell mixed with some very beautiful driving.\u00a0\u00a0 We decided to take the route from Lebanon through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg \u2013 bad mistake.\u00a0\u00a0 Both had traffic gridlock.\u00a0 The towns are tourist traps and driving\u00a0 a truck\/trailer through the narrow streets was not fun.\u00a0 After leaving Gatlinburg, we drove through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and it was amazing.<\/p>\n<p>Once we got to Cherokee the Google Maps demon kicked in and guided us into a private area with nowhere to turn around.\u00a0 It took us well over an hour to jockey the combo around in a person\u2019s yard.<\/p>\n<p>As I said, this is a beautiful campground and we are about 100 feet from a beautiful fast flowing stream.\u00a0 There is a good sized lake on the property with lots of ducks that want you to feed them.\u00a0 I have included a couple of photos.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1424\" src=\"http:\/\/beltguy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Ducks-at-Cherokee-NC-scaled-e1634149134814-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1425\" src=\"http:\/\/beltguy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Stream-in-Cherokee-scaled-e1634149208838-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>More to come.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wednesday afternoon \u2013 October 13, 2021\u00a0\u00a0 (second post of this travelogue) As I mentioned in the first post of this travelogue, we are on a rather extensive journey.\u00a0 I have a teaching assignment at Boeing in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania.\u00a0 We &hellip;
