{"id":1368,"date":"2021-04-14T19:24:04","date_gmt":"2021-04-15T01:24:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beltguy.com\/blog\/?p=1368"},"modified":"2021-04-14T19:24:04","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T01:24:04","slug":"hello-from-green-river-ut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beltguy.com\/Travelogue\/?p=1368","title":{"rendered":"Hello from Green River, UT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello from Green River, UT<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday evening \u2013 April 14, 2021\u00a0\u00a0 (Seventh post of this travelogue).<\/p>\n<p>Well, we are on the home stretch now.\u00a0 We should be in Evergreen tomorrow.\u00a0 Tomorrow\u2019s travel should be about 5 \u00bd hours of driving and a bit less than 350 miles.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t sound too bad until you factor in fairly significant snow predictions in Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>Our stop last night was in Ely (pronounced eee-lee).\u00a0 Ely has a very large mining operation just west of town with three very large open pit mines.\u00a0 The mines span almost three miles and the tailings are many stories high.\u00a0 They mostly produce copper, gold and molybdenum.<\/p>\n<p>Our trip today was a bit of a challenge from the standpoint of potty breaks.\u00a0 We drove about 150 miles and over two hours before we could find a town with a restroom.\u00a0 Actually Pat had to go to the post office and plead with them to use the facilities.\u00a0 I did the normal man thing down the road {grin}.\u00a0 On highway 50 in Nevada there are just no towns and almost no rest stops.\u00a0 We did find one area marked rest stop, but there was not even a porta-potty on the property.<\/p>\n<p>As I noted above, we are in Green River, Utah.\u00a0 This has always been a great travel logistics location for us.\u00a0 It is a nice drive to and from Evergreen and we have stayed in Green River many times over the years.\u00a0 Several years ago we were thrilled that Holiday Inn built a hotel here.\u00a0 However, it did not last long and soon became another brand.\u00a0 That caused us to travel on to Price when we were travelling to Salt Lake City in order to stay at a HI making the drive longer that we preferred.\u00a0 As I made plans to stay here tonight my search revealed that HI has just opened a new Holiday Inn Express Woo Hoo!<\/p>\n<p>Since this might be the last post for this trip, I thought I might summarize the trip a bit.\u00a0 We left Evergreen March 16 and will get home on April 15.\u00a0 We have spent 30 nights in hotels \u2013 all Holiday Inn properties.\u00a0 Five of the nights were paid for by accumulated points.\u00a0 All of the nights in Sumner were paid for by NTT.\u00a0 We have driven around 3,000 miles.\u00a0 In general, the weather has been pretty decent for our driving days.\u00a0 Tomorrow may be the exception.<\/p>\n<p>That is all for this trip.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello from Green River, UT Wednesday evening \u2013 April 14, 2021\u00a0\u00a0 (Seventh post of this travelogue).
