{"id":1350,"date":"2021-03-19T19:48:13","date_gmt":"2021-03-20T01:48:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beltguy.com\/blog\/?p=1350"},"modified":"2021-03-19T19:48:13","modified_gmt":"2021-03-20T01:48:13","slug":"hello-from-pendleton-or-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beltguy.com\/Travelogue\/?p=1350","title":{"rendered":"Hello from Pendleton, OR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello from Pendleton, OR<\/p>\n<p>Friday evening\u00a0 \u2013 March 19, 2021\u00a0\u00a0 (First post of this travelogue)<\/p>\n<p>Wow, this will be an actual travelogue with Pat and I on the road (but not in the bus).\u00a0 Our last joint travelogue was our camping trip in Dillon in June 2020.<\/p>\n<p>We are travelling to the Seattle Area via rental car.\u00a0 I will be teaching two different weeks at Boeing with one week in between.\u00a0 More about that in a future posts.<\/p>\n<p>We left Evergreen on Wednesday just after the big snowstorm.\u00a0 We felt it would be safest to travel I 25 north to I 80 and then head west.\u00a0 I had planned for each day of travel to be in the 350-380 mile range with some wiggle room in case the weather caused an issue.<\/p>\n<p>Our first day of travel was quite interesting.\u00a0 They had just opened I 25 to Cheyenne the day before and it was obvious that the snow had really wreaked havoc with travel.\u00a0 Indeed, as we approached Cheyenne, there were all kinds of warning signs about the truck stops being full and fuel islands being blocked by parked semis.\u00a0 It was amazing that all along the highway from about 5 miles south of the I 80 interchange, trucks were parked everywhere including on the side of the interstate.\u00a0 It turns out they had just opened I 80 and I 25 north of Cheyenne was still closed.<\/p>\n<p>Our first stop was Rock Springs, WY.\u00a0 While there was lots of snow on the sides of the interstate, we did not have any problems with this leg of the trip.\u00a0 As usual, we stayed in a Holiday Inn property.<\/p>\n<p>Our next stop was Twin Falls, ID.\u00a0 The driving seemed much easier for this leg.\u00a0 That was probably a combination of less snow on the side of the road and getting used to \u201clong distance driving\u201d.\u00a0 Because we were ahead of schedule, we decided to have a sit-down lunch \u2013 the first in a year.\u00a0 We exited the interstate and drove to a great little town \u2013 Rupert, ID.\u00a0 The town was straight out of a great novel.\u00a0 It had a town square and a neat water tower (see both in the photo below).\u00a0 We ate at a friendly little local restaurant and had a great meal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1351\" src=\"http:\/\/beltguy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG_4220-scaled-e1616204640454-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We had noted several signs showing what appeared to be a very scenic falls in the Twin Falls area \u2013 Shoshone Falls.\u00a0 The advertising suggested it was taller than Niagara Falls.\u00a0 Unfortunately the flow of the Snake River is very low this time of year and there were only small waterfalls.<\/p>\n<p>Today our drive to Pendleton was great.\u00a0 We traversed very flat magnificent farm land and some huge rolling hills.\u00a0 We saw lots of dairies which supplied large cheese factories and a huge Chobani Yogurt plant.\u00a0 The farms fields in the area are huge.\u00a0\u00a0 This time of year, it is hard to tell what the crops are, but it would appear that there is a lot of irrigated hay and wheat.\u00a0 We saw a lot of huge silage piles, but not much sign of corn fields.<\/p>\n<p>When we got to our hotel our window looked to the east and rolling hills of what appeared to be winter wheat (see photo).\u00a0 In that photo you can see some snow capped mountains in the distance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1352\" src=\"http:\/\/beltguy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/MXNR5817-scaled-e1616204735547-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That is all for this post \u2013 many more to come.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello from Pendleton, OR Friday evening\u00a0 \u2013 March 19, 2021\u00a0\u00a0 (First post of this travelogue) Wow, this will be an actual travelogue with Pat and I on the road (but not in the bus).\u00a0 Our last joint travelogue was our &hellip;
