\nDraft started Saturday morning,  July 26, 2014   (First post of this travelogue)<\/div>\n

\nThis has been a bit of a crazy whirlwind trip.  More about that in a minute.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nI need to add a note or two about our  trip to Salt Lake.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nAs we noted, we diverted from a direct route back home from
\nSalt Lake so that we could visit our two grandsons who attend college in
\nGunnison Colorado.  <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nWe drove from Salt Lake to Grand Junction and stayed the
\nnight at a Holiday Inn Express.  Monday
\nwe drove to Gunnison and again stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.  We were able to have lunch with Austin and
\nthen Dinner with Thomas and Klara.  It is
\nso fun to see that these young men have matured so much and are doing well in
\nCollege (both will be seniors this year).<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nWe arrived home Tuesday.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nOn Wednesday (7\/23) I drove the bus to Natoma, Kansas to stay
\nat a friend\u2019s house.  Natoma is north of
\nRussell and Hays on Kansas highway 18. 
\nSince this was mostly a boy\u2019s trip, Pat stayed home.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe reason for this trip was to attend the KKOA Leadsled
\nSpectacular in Salina, KS.  The KKOA
\nwebsite is here<\/a>.  I have been a member since the early \u201880s and
\nhave attended this event many times. 
\nIndeed, I completed the \u201956 Chevy in \u201987 and the whole family drove to
\nSpringfield IL for that event.  Pat made
\npoodle skirts and sweaters for her and the girls (see photo).<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nFor many years they held the event in various cities in the
\nmid-west (including three different Springfields \u2013 IL, OH, and MO \u2013 Pat and I
\nattended them all in the \u201956).  I have
\nnot driven the \u201956 in several years \u2013 maybe next year.  They have now settled on holding the event in
\nSalina, KS because it is just about in the center of the country.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe car count dwindled over the years, as have many major
\ncar events.  However, the count has
\npicked up in the past couple of years and it appears that there were over 1,000
\nregistrations this year!<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe show was great! 
\nWish I could say the same about the weather.  It was 106 degrees in Salina on Friday when
\nmy friend and I attended the show!!  Can
\nyou say brutal?  <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nI had a good time visiting with my friend John.  He has 20 acres with a fairly large
\npercentage filled with out building with all kinds of good stuff in them .  He also has a large number of buses and 50\u2019s
\nera trucks on the property. We visited a one of his friends whose family used
\nto own a GM dealership in a close-by town. 
\nThe person has a huge collection of neat old cars, many of which were
\nvery low mile trade-ins that the family kept.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nI returned to Evergreen on Saturday.  The bus did fine and it was fun not to have a
\ntoad behind me.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
