\nHello from Prescott, IA<\/div>\n

\nSunday morning,  August 10, 2014   (First post of this travelogue)<\/div>\n

\nSadly, Pat\u2019s aunt Jaris passed away on Monday (8\/4) in
\nCorning, IA.  We left Evergreen on
\nTuesday in the bus and stopped in Kearney, NE for the night.  <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nWednesday, as we approached Corning, we encountered road
\nconstruction on US 34.  It was asphalt
\ngrinding \u2013 a situation we have encountered many times.  Just before the highway that leads to Corning
\n(Pat\u2019s home town), our tire alarm went off. 
\nWe turned towards Corning so that we could stop at her cousin\u2019s tire
\nshop.  By the time we got there, both of
\nthe tow dolly tires were sending alarms and both tires were nearly flat.  We unhooked the PT cruiser from the dolly and
\nleft the tow dolly at the shop.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nJerry (Pat\u2019s cousin) determined that fairly large slivers of
\nasphalt had punctured both of the tow dolly tires.  Jerry was able to fix them.  I had a mounted spare and an additional un-mounted
\ntire.  I ordered an extra rim and now
\nhave two spares (who would guess that both tires would go flat at the same time?).  All the other tires seem to be OK.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nOn Thursday there were family events related to the funeral.  Friday was the funeral, along with other
\nrelated activities.  Thursday we had a
\nfamily dinner at the Hoerman\u2019s (family tradition of beef and noodles) and
\nFriday we had another family dinner at Mona and Terry\u2019s.  Both were great events where lots of family
\nstories got exchanged.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nTwo of our daughters were able to make the trip.  Lisa flew in with Pat\u2019s cousin Linda and all
\nof Kelly\u2019s family drove back.  Pat\u2019s
\nsister and her friend changed their travel plans for a Minnesota trip and drove
\nto Iowa.  After the funeral they
\ncontinued on to Minnesota.  Lisa flew
\nback to Denver Saturday and Kelly and her family left Saturday afternoon.  Pat\u2019s friend (since early childhood) Linda
\ncame down from Des Moines for the Friday events \u2013 it is always great to see
\nher.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nAfter the various activities on Friday we needed some \u201chappy
\ntime\u201d.  We went out to a family farm to
\nsee some day old piglets – most of the Denver folks got to hold them (see
\nphotos).  It does not take much to
\nentertain the city folk {grin}.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n

\nWe were worried about going to Iowa in August because of the
\nheat and humidity.  We are connected to a
\nnormal 20 amp outlet for our power and that is not enough to power an air
\nconditioner.  It turns out that the weather
\nhas been rainy and fairly cool.  Aside
\nfrom the humidity (somewhat damp sheets), the sleeping conditions have been
\ngreat.  The rain was great for the Iowa
\nfolks as it has been dry and they need the moisture for the crops.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nWe will start home today.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
